Describe the direction of overflow
Water spilling over the front differs from water running behind the gutter. Overflow near a valley may reflect concentrated flow, while an outlet problem can affect a longer run. Observe from a safe ground-level position and note which downspouts are discharging.
Do not assume a recently cleaned gutter is correctly configured or that a dirty gutter explains every interior stain. The roof edge, gutter position, attachment and discharge route may all deserve attention.
Know what the fascia does—and does not do
The fascia is the board or surface along the roof edge, often where the gutter is attached. It is not intended to replace a reliable water-shedding roof detail. Repeated wetting can be a reason to assess what is directing water toward it.
A new gutter may still leave the fascia exposed if the roofing connection above it is defective. Ask the scope to address the relationship between the covering, edge metal and gutter, rather than treating each as unrelated.
Match maintenance to the property
A wooded Maurice River lot may collect different debris from an open Upper Deerfield property. Even one house can have a shaded, debris-prone rear and a clear front. Discuss access and observed accumulation rather than following a universal schedule without considering conditions.
Guards can affect maintenance but do not eliminate inspection. Their suitability depends on debris, roof geometry and product design. Elevated work belongs with appropriately equipped people; avoid climbing onto wet or icy surfaces.
Clarify where the roofing scope ends
Underground discharge piping, landscape drainage and foundation water management may need separate evaluation. A gutter proposal should state whether any of these are included. Roof-related work should not be assumed to resolve every water problem around the house.
Keep photos of the original overflow pattern and ask how the completed work changes that route. If a symptom continues, report the location and conditions rather than simply describing the whole drainage system as unsuccessful.

Will cleaning stop all gutter overflow?
No. Cleaning addresses obstruction, but placement, condition, capacity and roof-edge details may require other work. The observed water path should guide the scope.
